17 Kilometer Run
After a long time had a long run on May 28th. Ran for little over 17 kilometers. I wanted to just cover the distance and so ran at a easy pace. I did the full distance in about 2 hours, including a water break of 5 minute or so.
Started running behind our Apartment complex at 2nd cross, then after 100 Ft road continued on double road towards Old Madras Road. Ran till Sahajanand Road and then took right towards Airport road. Took a right turn on Jeevan Bhema Nagar road and reached 80 Feet road at Indiranagar. The total distance till 80 Ft road is about 9 Km. Took a water break and went to the corner bakery, had a Amul Butter milk and some water. Then I ran on 80 feet road till Old Madras road and back - twice. That was another 8 kilometer.
When I started, for the first 4 kilometer or so my legs were pretty rusty. After that things become easy and had a comfortable run. Started feeling my old right knee injury, few hours after the run. It took me couple of days to recover.
Overall it was a satisfying run, considering I started running seriously after 4 years and had a knee injury last year. I read a news item in second week of May that Bangalore Marathon has been postponed to September 3rd. I took that as a omen, and started practicing for it. I will run the half-marathon. I want to test run my knees with a half first. If every thing goes well, then I will try to run the full Mumbai Marathon in February.
Two weeks ago, I joined Runners for Life (RFL), a Bangalore based running club. So far I have one run with them around Ulsoor lake. It's good to be part of like-minded people, who love physical activity and like to push themselves. There are some serious runners in the group and many of then have run multiple marathons over last few years. Before I joined them, I used to wonder why people do not run in Bangalore. Majority of people prefer taking walks!!!.
